A Free and Easy Guide to Jailbreaking Your iPhone

iphone jailbreak

I want to share my experiences with Jailbreaking the iPhone and in the process save you a lot of time and effort. The first thing I will tell you is that I am by no means an “expert” or a tech geek in any way, but that is the point – this method is perfect for anyone to jailbreak their iPhone with a minimum of fuss. And best of all it is totally free. There is no need to pay for any jailbreak software in fact they are a complete rip off in my opinion. This is not the definitive guide – but this is the quickest and easiest way to learn how to jailbreak an iPhone.

What is Jailbreaking an iPhone?

When Apple designed the iPhone they made it so that it would only be able to work with Apple software apps – and so control the market – or so they hoped. Some smart tech geeks got to work right away and discovered how to “hack” the operating system and allow third party software to be used on the iPhone. Jailbreaking your iPhone is basically adapting the operating system (OS) to allow you the freedom to use other software – either free or paid.iphone jailbreak

The apps market today is huge, with literally thousands of weird and wonderful add-ons to enhance your phone. If you have a standard iPhone which hasn’t been jail broken you are limited to buying only what Apple has to offer – you are jailed!

Jailbreaking your iPhone is perfectly legal and it is totally reversible. People often say that your warranty may be void if you jailbreak, which is actually true – if you are not smart! If you need to return your phone under warranty you just need to restore your old OS before bringing the phone near Apple.

Simply upgrading your operating system will remove the jailbreak. So don’t worry and just follow a few simple precautions and your warranty will be fine.

A Quick Tip about Jailbreaking Guides

The first time I wanted to try Jailbreaking I got stuck into some research online. The amount of information out there is amazing, but that is part of the problem. I got lost in all the conflicting ideas and the impossibly detailed explanations and guides. I only wanted to play with a couple of apps and escape the evil clutches of the big company! This seemed like an incredibly complex operation way beyond my limited capabilities.

You have to remember that most of this stuff is written by people who really love all the technical details – real geeks – not just an average person who has a little experience. Avoid reading too much about the subject, I can guarantee you will end up confused. Don’t worry about tethered or un-tethered jailbreaks, or whether you need XY or Z software downloads for your iOS version. It really can be a lot easier than many people make out. You don’t need to become an expert you just need to get the job done.

Before You Begin – Important!

Just like when you are going to do anything with your PC – always make a backup! Why do people read this information and then ignore it? It’s simple, you can backup your iPhone to your computer using iTunes – most iPhone users should be familiar with this – Google it if you are not sure. As long as you have a good working backup, everything you do will be safe and you don’t risk loosing data. Remember that the whole process is reversible – so loose your fear!

The Easy Way to Jailbreak an iPhone

After what seemed like days of mind bending searching on the internet I found this method. I don’t take any credit for this system – I just happened to find it and it works. This first method works for all but the latest OS systems – it also works for iPad and iPod Touch.

Using the iPhone you want to jailbreak go online and type this website address in – www.jailbreakme.com  – you don’t need a PC or any cables, just the phone. The site will recognize your phone and OS and if it is compatible it will automatically prompt you to install Cydia.

Cydia is basically a software app which acts as a gateway page to all of the software downloads from outside Apple. Simply follow the instructions – I think you need to press two or three buttons on the touch screen, and Cydia will download automatically. It will close and Cydia will be on your start screen – that is it, your iPhone is jailbroken and you are free to explore all the apps and customizations available. I couldn’t believe just how easy this was, especially after reading some very detailed and complicated instructions online.

Jailbreakme is also updated regularly and they seem to crack the latest OS versions pretty quickly.

What if Jailbreakme Doesn’t Work?

Well I found another way, which is just a little more hands on but still easy. Log on to Jailbreakme.com with your PC or laptop this time and go to the link which says “or use a different Jailbreak on your computer”. This will bring you to a page with the latest downloads. Just select one to match your operating system and device, follow the instructions and download it to your computer. You can then install it on your iPhone with one click – easy as!

At the time of writing there is support up to iOS 5.0.1 but throughout 2012 there will be more updates – this is a constantly moving process, when a new OS is released a hack soon becomes available.

So there you have it, Jailbreaking an iPhone for the technically challenged. Jailbreakme is by far the easiest solution I have seen and it works so easily. Save a lot of time and effort and go straight there – before the geeks blow your mind. Totally free and easy to use with no catches.

How to Remove Cell Phone Spy Software and Protect Your Phone

spy software removal

If you are looking to find out how to remove cell phone spy software applications from your phone, you’ve come to the right place, and I’ll try and explain several ways how you can do it. Additionally, I’ll provide tips on how to protect your phone in the future.

This will be kept as simple as possible, without getting too technical in the process. After all, the main goal of this guide is to help you remove spy apps from your cell phone, not confuse you with unnecessary technicalities and IT lingo. So, let’s get straight to the point, shall we?

The two basic ways of removing spy software are: factory reset and OS update. Have a look at each one and decide what works best for you.

Need to find out more about what spy software is and can do? Reflex software guides are a good resource to start with – lots of monitoring software reviews for cell phones, tablets and PC’s. The site is managed by John Pruitt – he seems to know his stuff and has halped me with a few questions I had.

Spy Software Removal with a Factory Reset

Performing a factory reset is arguably the most thorough and complete method of removing spy software from your cell phone. This should be your method of choice in case you are not sure you are being monitored. The removal process differs slightly, depending on the type of your cell phone.

If you are not sure how to do this yourself, the easiest thing to do would be to visit your local vendor and have them perform a reset for you. Most of them will do it free of charge, since it is a fairly simple procedure. Factory reset is possible on all types of cell phones, including Android, iPhone and BlackBerry.spy software removal

Before you perform a factory reset, a quick word of advice: make sure you backup your cell phone first!

When you do a factory reset, it means your phone will be restored to a condition as it was when you first bought it, and all of your data will be removed, including any software and applications you might have installed in the meantime. In case you need to keep your contacts, photos or music, and you do, backup all that data before continuing. Once you have made sure all the necessary data is backed up, you can proceed with the factory reset.

Based on my experience, these are the best guides so far for each phone type:

I’m referring you to these because they are very easy to understand and they take you through the entire process one step at a time. Once you have completed the factory reset, you can be sure that any traces of spy software will be removed permanently. Quick and easy, the only hassle is the need to backup your data before you perform a reset.

Spy Software Removal with OS Update

In case you are looking for a way to remove spy software, but without removing all the data off your phone, then you should consider updating or re-installing the phone’s firmware or its operating system.

It is less extreme and it essentially has the same effect. Because spy apps are made for a specific operating system, and a specific version of it as well, changing or updating to a newer version of the OS will render the spy apps useless. Mind you, the factory reset is still a more complete solution as I mentioned, but in most cases OS update will do just fine.

Keep in mind that once you update the OS, the update will remove rooting, in case of an Android phone, and jailbreaking, in case of an iPhone.

Removing Spy Software from an iPhone

Removing a spy app from your iPhone is as simple as it gets – you just need to update or reinstall the iOS. How does it work? In order for any spy program to work on the iPhone, the phone itself needs to be jailbroken. Once you update the iOS, jailbreak will be removed along with the spy app.

Manual Removal of the Spy Software

First and foremost: you should do a manual removal of the spy software only in case you really know what you are doing! Since most of us can’t really gauge the extent of our own knowledge objectively, I cannot recommend this. The most difficult aspect of this method is that the actual spy software files are difficult to identify, since they are disguised on purpose.

In my opinion, this is not worth the risk and should be avoided, not to mention that your phone might not work properly after that.

Now, removing the spy software is only a part of the solution. Next up, you need to make sure it won’t happen again by protecting your cell phone properly. Personally, I am stunned when I see how careless people are when it comes to protecting their phones. Even some of the most basic methods are usually overlooked and ignored. Keep in mind that spy apps only take a few minutes to install, provided that someone has physical access to your cell phone.

Here are some of the ways you can make sure your phone stays safe:

  • Password Lock Feature – All cell phones have this feature. Simply set up a good strong code and that’s it. Needless to say, don’t share it with anyone.
  • Password App – If you want a more advanced security method, try some of the free or paid password apps which will allow you to manage your passwords.
  • Security App –Luckily, there are numerous apps to choose from for any kind of phone. I recommend the
  • Lookout Mobile Security. It offers different levels of protection for Android and iPhones, depending on whether you’re sticking with a free or paid version. It is able to detect most of the spy apps out there.

Try one of these methods and see which fits your needs best. For most of you, choosing a simple secure password will do just fine.

3 Useful Windows Phone Apps You Have to Try Out

iphone apps

If you are using an Android device, there are plenty of apps out there and all sorts of tips and tricks on how to use them to enhance your user experience. But, while I was surfing the internet, I didn’t come across a lot of articles which dealt with the same subject matter, albeit featuring Windows phones. Of course, this is due to Android’s enormous popularity, and the lack of apps for Windows cell phones.

But, when Windows Phone 8 appeared, the situation began to look a lot better, and the prospect of buying a Windows phone, became much more appealing. Personally, I’ve been on the bandwagon for years now, but for those of you who are new to Windows Phone, or if you are thinking about buying a device which runs it, take a look at these useful bits of advice.iphone apps

Capture What’s on Your Screen

Taking a screenshot is finally possible with Windows Phone 8. All you have to do is press the Home and Lock buttons at the same time, which is miles simpler than the stuff you had to do before in order to capture a screenshot. Before, you had to have developer privileges, and then you had to use a developer-specific app. Needless to say, anyone can do it this way.

What Was the Name of That Song?

If you have a bunch of songs on your Windows phone, but don’t know any of the titles, you no longer need to download a dedicated app, such as Shazam for instance, in order to find out the name of the tune. Windows Phone 8 comes with a built-in song-recognition feature. To use it, tap the hardware Search button, and then the music icon in the bottom toolbar, and that is pretty much it. Let the phone do its magic, and come back with the exact title of the song. You will also be given a link where you can buy the song.

Battery Low…

My battery has a knack for running low at the worst moment possible, so this power-saving feature is one I can’t do without. To access it, go to Settings and activate the Battery Saver. What it will do is stop all the automatic syncing processes, such as email, and prevent any apps from running in the background. The basic functionality will still be left intact, and it will still do what it’s supposed to do – make and receive calls, send and receive texts. Of course, you can still choose to sync any app, but you will have to do it manually. What I also like is that you can choose to use the Battery Saver mode not only when your battery is critically low, but you can also keep it active all the time. If it’s active a little heart will appear over your battery indicator.

Top 5 Android Phones That Won’t Break the Bank

If you have access to a regular mobile flip phone, odds are that for a little more money, you can upgrade to a smartphone.

Android is the leading competitor with Apple for creating quality phones. Android just happens to be open source which means many companies have created devices that will use the operating system. iOS, however, is far more proprietary and does not allow for other manufacturers to create mobile devices using their software. retro video games

Games have come a long way in the last 30 years. From first person shooter games to MMORPGs (massively multiplayer online role-playing game), there is an entire world of video games tailored to every need. But what about the old games we grew up with? The ones we know and love? They aren’t obsolete. They’re just facing fierce competition. These simple oldies but goodies are just as fun as you remember.

If you find yourself in need of some arcade or old-school console game time, here are a few that might fulfill your retro gaming needs.

1. Tetris (1984)

Challenging and fun to play at any age, Tetris is IT. The music alone is an element in pop culture all over the world. It was originally played in arcades and handheld devices in many countries, but the game itself originated in Russia. Updated versions are available, and you can even find them for your Android device. Check out a free online version here.

2. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (1991)

This third Zelda game was released on Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) and re-released on Game Boy Advance in 2002. The RPG-like game has a complicated and interesting storyline. Like a good book, you keep playing along just to see where the story takes you. Wizards, a quest, and a damsel in distress: all the essential ingredients for an awesome story.

3. Doom (1993)

This is where first-person shooter games got their start. Doom is a sci-fi/horror game featuring a space marine who has to fight his way through hell spawn and demons to complete the game. Doom isn’t for kids though, the scary satanic imagery and gore is meant for mature players. Here’s what it looked like back in the day:

4. Day of the Tentacle (1993)

This cult classic from LucasArts is the follow-up to Maniac Mansion. This point-and-click game is also known as a graphic retro video gamesadventure game. Day of the Tentacle continues to delight players even 20 years later.

5. Super Mario 64 (1996)

Super Mario 64 was the game that was released with the console along with Pilotwings 64. This open-world, 3D platform was one of the first of its kind. There are puzzles, bad guys to beat, and courses to complete. Super Mario 64 is fun for all ages.

This is by no means an extensive list, but it’s a great jumping off point for folks who want reminisce.

Choosing the Right Cell Phone Antivirus

AVG Logo

Viruses have been a “privilege” of the PC world for a long time, but with the rapid development of mobile technology, that privilege has spread to cell phones as well. So far, the only thing that was preventing viruses from becoming more common is the fact that each cell phone model had its own operating system, and viruses and other malicious software are designed to infect a specific platform.

Needless to say, it is essential that you protect your mobile phone in the same way you would protect your PC. Without further ado, here are some of the options which can help you protect your cell phone:

Norton Mobile Security

A familiar name in the PC realm, Norton also offers mobile security. Besides providing protection from viruses and Norton for Mobilemalware, Norton Mobile Security has some interesting options, such as lock-out capability for filtering unwanted messages and calls, remote find and remote locking in case your cell phone is stolen. Once you’ve accessed your device remotely, you have the option of using a wipe feature, which will delete all the data you have to prevent someone from abusing it. Supported platform is Android 2 or later, and it requires less than 2 MB of space. You can download a free LITE version and check it out.

Kaspersky Mobile Security

Another household name in the antivirus business, Kaspersky offers antivirus and spam protection, data encryption, firewall and much more. Supporting numerous platforms, like BlackBerry 4.5 and up, Symbian, Android 1.6 and up and Windows Mobile 5.0 or later, Kaspersky Mobile Security is not free some like some of its competitors, but Kaspersky often has special offers, so, given the right moment, you can get it for about $15, which is half the price.

ESET Mobile Security

ESET mobile security provides firewall, remote wipe and spam protection. Similar to its PC counterpart, it has portable memory scanning and evaluation of files uploaded via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or infrared, quarantine and so on. You need about 1 MB of memory to run it. Supported operating systems include Windows Mobile 5.0 and later, and some versions of Symbian. However, with price set at $59.99, it’s pretty expensive, but you can test if for free for 30 days.

AVG LogoAVG Mobile Antivirus

Another name PC users will be familiar with. In fact, they will feel right at home. AVG Mobile Antivirus is a free antivirus application for Android mobile devices, which, apart from locating and removing viruses, has the ability to perform scheduled scans, as well already previously mentioned wipe feature, by using GPS to locate a lost or stolen device. You can expand its features for less than $10, by adding anti-phishing and anti-spam options.
This list is not complete by any means, and finding the right fit may take you some time, but you should adopt some habits that will make you less vulnerable. You’d want to avoid pirated software, patches, updates, or emails from an unknown source, as well as learn to update your antivirus on a regular basis.

Now all you need is a new cell phone now – so check out these ones!

Reviewing the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Series

galaxy tab 3

In the past few product releases, Samsung has been lagging behind the iPad somewhat when it comes to the tablet market. However, with its recent release of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3, many think that the gap between the two tech giants is slowly closing. Especially, noting that one definitely comes at a lower price tag! The contents below will review the new device of Samsung, and what you, ‘the consumer’ can expect from it!

The Unveiling – Inside the Box!

As with most Samsung products, the packaging for the Galaxy Tab 3 was quite minimalistic, and inside the recycled

galaxy tab 3

box were the following (all items that can come in handy):

  • USB charging cable
  • Micro USD charging wall adapter
  • Various documentation e.g. accessory guides, Quick start guide, Galaxy Perks etc.

External Specs…

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 comes in three different sizes – 7inches ($199+), 8 inches ($299+) and 10 inches ($399+, which definitely adds value to the device, knowing that it can come in all different shapes and sizes, therefore appealing to all users.

You can also choose from two colors – Gold Brown or White, which also positively adds to the sleekness of the gadget.

Internal Specs…

All sizes come with the latest Android operating system (4.2.2) and a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, Wi-Fi and rear-facing cameras. It is important to note the rear-facing camera does go up in mega pixels (3.0MP – 5.0MP) depending on the device. This is also true with the resolution quality, with the minimum being 1024 x 600, and maximum going up to 1280 x 800.

The 1.5 GHz dual-core processor allows for the device to maintain its speed whilst allowing the user to be able to multi-task within its battery life of eight and a half hours.

In terms of memory, this ranges from 8GB – 16GB, with a further increase of up to 64GB, if you purchase a micro SD card.

Additional Great Features Include:

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 series also includes all additional features that come with the Android software. For example; Google+, Google Maps, the Google Play Store etc. Many popular and cool apps, such as YouTube is already pre-loaded onto the device even before it’s registered by a user!

Another cool application that users should definitely look forward to is the Peel Smart Remote App. A nifty idea, that allows the user to use their Galaxy Tab to plug into new TV shows based on their tastes and preferences. The app recognizes this when the user first programs their TV into the app accompanied by their zip code. You are instantly given a list of TV shows and channels, instead of having to flip through the TV trying to find something to watch. What is also fantastic is that you can use your Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 to switch channels, or turn on or off the television once you have the app up and running successfully.

Overall Thoughts – to buy or not to buy?

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 is definitely worth a look and a purchase, especially if you are a big fan of Android devices. It is definitely comparable to the iPad, and the various sizes of the device are attractive for everyone.

What do you know about Avast Free Antivirus 2014?

The latest Avast! Antivirus offers a streamlined and creative UI along a good combination of intuitive key tweaks not only in the front-end but also in the back-end. The software incorporates user data management as well as strong privacy utilities for the prevention of unauthorized access to a PC. Arguably, this antivirus seems to have been the most reliable and user-friendly security tool in the world of free security products.

How avast! Free Antivirus 2014 makes 200 million people happy— Pros?

Significant improvement of UI

The latest product from Avast has earned excellent ratings from various independent experts who have already conducted checks on its effectiveness. The system includes a uniquely designed File Shredder that ensures greater amount of security than all other competitors’ products do. It comes with some significant improvements on its user interface to give all users an easy access to different types of free apps for the protection of tablets or mobile devices.

Fewer Shields

Avast’s 2014 edition streamlines a good collection of all its real time shields against the possible malware. Althoughfree_antivirus2 users of the previous versions had to see status and configure eight different shields, users of this new version confront only three shields of which all are quite easy-to-understand. The shields are Mail Shield, Web Shield, and File System Shield.

Apart from providing simplified navigation facilities, the software includes a file management system that can produce smart decisions on unknown file types or new data. There is an enhanced opportunity to scan and analyze crowd-sourced items to check if there is any malicious item.

File encryption is fantastic while malware cleaning facility is superb. The new edition of antivirus can not only scan but also install items using safe mode. To tune network components, it offers increased protection compatibility. Faster video streaming and multiple malware removal options are some of its exclusive features.

In addition to checks for website reputation and Do-Not-Track features, the product also ensures protection against numerous websites that are typo-squatting. Also, you can get in touch with the technical department since the latest version includes free supports on technical issues.

How avast! Free Antivirus 2014 proves to be inadequate— Cons?

Malware blocking using heuristic detection module.
Despite the fact that Avast has some popularity for its malware-blocking feature, its heuristic malware detection has been reported to have blocked several valid programs running in the system. Many expert users also reveal that they faced difficulties when they tried to exclude some of their valid programs which were wrongly-blocked.

Inadequate phishing protection

There is a controversy that the phishing protection of the latest antivirus software lacks propriety while developers claim that the product encompasses “Dual Phishing Protection”. A security plug-in included in it prevents websites which show illegitimate attempts to steal your computer’s security credentials.

Its Web Shield employs necessary blocks when accessing to various fraudulent sites. The shield also labels the sites as either “Phishing-Q” or “BankFraud-N”. However, the so-called poor Dual Phishing system is reported to provide an inadequate detection rate which is only 32%.

Unavailability of Automatic Updates

Though there is a button labeled “Activate automatic updates” in its UI, users cannot get an update, and they find an offer made to upgrade to the premium version instead. Both the SecureLine VPN and the AccessAnywhere require users to make separate purchases.

Some products or software can easily win the heart of millions. In fact, Avast! Free Antivirus 2014 is considered an outstanding security companion for PCs by hundreds of millions of people. Now, what do you think about this new version? Of course, the eyes of 200 million people should not make mistakes. Why are you waiting? Let’s join the vast Avast user community.

Finding The Best Free Antivirus Software for Your PC

free antivirus programs

Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need to spend a ton of money when it comes to protecting your computer against the dangers of viruses. In fact, in most cases you do not even have to spend a penny! On this page I want to run you through some of the best antivirus software for your PC. All of it is 100% free. Can’t say fairer than that right?

AdAware Antivirus

AdAware was originally conceived as a piece of software that was designed to fight off all those annoying Trojans and the like which generated pop ups on your computer. In fact, just a few years ago it was one of the most popular pieces of free software in the world for protection of that nature.

Its current incarnation however goes well beyond blocking those ad generating menaces. Nowadays it can scan your computer in real time to ensure that you stay fully protected from viruses. It will scan every single inch of your computer to ensure that nothing is lurking within. It is a fairly lightweight program too, which means that you will not even notice it when it is running. The interface of AdAware is also VERY simple to browse through. This software is much recommended.

Microsoft Security Essentials (Windows Defender in Windows 8)

If you own a Windows computer then this software is going to come installed as standard. Like most other free antivirus software it will run real time protection. You can also scan for intruders whenever you like. It is not the most powerful on this list, but it certainly is a good starting point for those that understand the value of PC security.

This program is very similar in functionality to AdAware. Many people claim that it has slightly better detection though. People also find the user interface slightly easier to browse through. One of the great things about Avast! Is that it seems to be getting an almost constant stream of updates. This is absolutely fantastic, after all, there are new threats coming into existence all of the time. When a company stays on top of things, you know that you are going to be keeping your computer safe. Check out my Avast review here.

AVG Free

The last free antivirus software I wish to draw to your attention is that of AVG Free. This software functions in pretty much the same way as the previous ones I have mentioned. However, it has a feature which I have yet to spot on the free antivirus programsother software. This is the fact that it will check every single link that pops up in real time. This way you will know whether there is a threat of being ‘attacked’ from a particular website before you click the link. This does slow down the browsing of the internet somewhat, but to be honest, if you are the type of person who normally gets yourself into a bit of a pickle then this sacrifice in speed will be worth it.

Of course, this is just a very brief guide to the best free antivirus software for your PC. I am pretty sure that there is a whole heap of software that I have yet to mention. I suggest that you start with this list though. They should fulfill your needs pretty well.

One final point though. Remember, the best protection for your computer is always you. If you browse the internet and check through your emails with a bit of common sense then you should avoid most viruses straight off the bat.
